Keep reading to learn how you can incorporate these rewarding and beneficial community support strategies into your business.
1. Sponsor an event
When your company sponsors an event, you and your colleagues supply your time or resources to support an organization’s fundraising efforts. From golf outings and concerts to sports games and run/walks, there many different events in the Madison area that allow you to focus on causes your company is passionate about. One of the events we’ve sponsored is the Lifest Stage at Brat Fest to help support over 100 local charities.
Many worthwhile organizations could benefit from your help.
2. Be eco-conscious
“We are tied to this land, and we are not to take what is not ours, and if we need something, we must leave something in return.” — Elder – Washoe Tribe
Another easy way to enhance your company’s community giving efforts is to embrace environmentally-friendly and sustainability practices that minimize your carbon footprint. Setting a green-friendly example for your colleagues and other businesses can help ensure a brighter future for the next generation. All it takes is a simple yet concerted effort to make a difference. Start with these ideas:
- Include both recycling and compost bins in your office, and teach your employees how to use them
- Encourage employees to bike or carpool to work
- Invest in our eco-friendly office supplies and furniture
- Use our free office supply recycling services
- Reduce energy use whenever possible and consider incorporating renewable sources into your business – wind is our source of choice
- Support other local sustainability efforts, such as Sustain Dane
3. Set up a collection jar
A simple way to give back to your community is to set up a collection jar in your store or office. Whether they donate a dollar or a hundred, invite employees and customers to contribute any amount they wish to support a worthy cause for animals, the environment, children, or other groups in need.
4. Participate in donation drives
Ask colleagues and customers to contribute clothing, food, or other items to be donated to those who need it most. Just place a collection bin in an easy-to-access area in your building and spread the word to all of your business contacts. You can also increase your donations by turning participation into a contest and rewarding the person or group who contributes the most.
Ask us about donating your shoes to the Soles4Soles program – we’ll even pick them up on our route!
5. Organize an employee volunteer day
Giving back to the community begins with cultivating a company culture that encourages everyone to get involved. Consider organizing an all-employee volunteer day to help increase your company’s exposure in the community while doing good for others. Holiday food drives, home building for families in need, and reading to children are all great examples of ways you and your comrades can spend a day helping others.
6. Offer your skills and services
Consider helping a mission-driven organization in need by pooling the talent at your office and putting it to good use. Offering your skills or services at no- or low-cost can advance worthy initiatives that aim to help our friends and neighbors here in the Madison area.
We believe giving back to the community is incredibly rewarding and there are many ways to show your support. Together, we can all do our part to make a difference in the Madison area and beyond. For more business and office life advice, check out our blog.
